The Islamic Society is a young society growing in membership every year. It is one of the more active societies within the university with activities and events throughout the academic year.
The university itself specialises in the Arts, Drama and Humanity departments although the Islamic society has a fair share of members studying Computer Science and IT based courses.
The prayer room itself is known as the Multi Faith Prayer Room and had been established in the early part of 2006 thanks to much campaigning from the society's previous members.
The aim of the Islamic Society is simple, none other than to facilitate the interests of the whole Muslim community at Goldsmiths College, we follow the broad understanding of Islam according to the Qur'an, authentic Sunnah and practices of the early generations of Muslims
We here also feel we have a duty to engage with the wider community at Goldsmiths College and do so with varying methods but consistently making the worship of Allah alone with no partners at the core of our engagement.
'I did not create jinn nor man except that they worship Me'
Ad Dhariyat:56
'Say (O Muhammed): 'If you love Allah then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is oft forgiving, most merciful''
Al Imran:31
The foundation upon which we progress and carry out activities is in the prayer room.
Officially called the Multi Faith Prayer Room, it is found in the Richard Hoggart Main Building on the 1st floor room 2.106 with seperate male and female entrances
As well as formalities, the prayer room is also a place where brothers and sisters take refuge, read a book/recite or socialise
The prayer room has full wudu(ablution) facilitites with hot and cold running water and is regularly maintained by ISoc members.
Our Jumm'ah (Friday Khutbah and prayers) is carried out in the Multi Faith Prayer Room
Here you can find a library full of Islamic literature and audio available for borrowing as well as freebies
There is also a small prayer room located on the ground floor of the Student's Union Building next door to the Stephan Lawrence Committee Room.
This is primarily used when the main prayer room is unavailable due to bookings for other use.

National rail: London Bridge station it takes 5 minutes and is probably the best method from Central London while the East London line faces reconstruction, London Bridge is linked by both Jubilee and Northern lines. You can also catch the Overground towards New Cross from Waterloo East and Charing Cross stations respectively
PLEASE NOTE: Pay and Go Oyster does not operate on the trains running from London Bridge, a travelcard is fine.
Underground/Overground: New Cross and New Cross Gate stations are our nearest overgound stations. Which is 5 mins walk to the uni campus.
Canada Water on the Jubilee line is currently the nearest tube station where you can catch the overground.
DLR: Nearest DLR station is Deptford Bridge, it is walking distance, however you can simply take a bus a few minutes towards New Cross
Bus: click here to view all the buses that run through New Cross
Car: There is free parking around the university, however the society does urge caution as parking spaces do fill up quickly, depending on the time of day you are arriving.
Dixon Road, Laurie Grove, St James', Amersham Road, Batavia Road, Achilles Street and Exeter Way have round the clock free parking.

Bicycle: Ride as the crow flies, there are plenty of spaces to lock up your bicycle and bicycle thefts are minimal within the grounds of the university, however, if travelling from East London, crossing Rotherhithe or Blackwall tunnel on a bicycle is ill advised without a pollution mask.
